U-15s win Glasgow Schools Football Championship!
Under 15s – The Road to Victory
The build-up to the final started with a quarter-final victory over Knightswood in the West End of the City . The game finished 5-2 to KP with a hat-trick from Peter Knotts and a double from Jonathan Lee.
Our semi-final was against Whitehill and the venue was Toryglen Sports Centre. The game finished 8-1 to us with Robert Whelan (2), Daniel Salah (2), Jonathan Lee (2) and with Kyle MacBeth and Ryan Moore each notching one. Not everyone ended the game on a high however with speed demon Sokol Saka getting injured at the end of the game and having to be taken to the Victoria Infirmary with torn ligaments. After the semis we were all then looking forward to the Final.
The Final took place on Monday 1
st
June at a spectacular venue – Lesser Hampden. The game kicked off at 4 o’clock and everyone was starting to feel the heat. Not because of the game but the scorching temperature which reached 26C! At half-time the teams were exhausted and the score still stood at 0-0 with Park dominating. Both teams set off with a plan in mind for the second half. Park could have broken the dead-lock through Robert Whelan with a magnificent run through on goal but failed to score after a brilliant stop from their keeper. Shortly after this Kyle MacBeth struck the post with a great shot from his weaker foot. The ball fell into the path of Jonathan Lee who squared the ball back into the box where Scott Jarvie was waiting to knock the ball home with his head. Scott had quite a celebration where he took his top off and the whole team danced around it including the goalkeeper McCabe! He was yellow-carded for his moment of jubilation.
This goal had taken place with 15 minutes to go and ten minutes later the ball went out for a corner. Robert Whelan delivered the ball perfectly to Jonathan Lee who made no mistake of sending the ball home.
This meant a 2-0 lead and KP were now in place to go on and win the first Glasgow Championship for the school since 2003. The team received their medals and Captain Ryan Moore lifted up the Giant Shield. We were the Champions!
Thanks to Jose Mourinho (Mr Grimes) for leading us to a great victory.
