MOVING IMAGE EDUCATION - CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the team who took part in the Moving Image Education competition!  And thank you to Mrs Sutherland for her support.  The photo shows the pupils at the premier of the 5 separate regeneration agencies' entries in the Moving Images in Education event to promote film-making.  GSERA (Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency) organised our entry, enabled by Steven and Brian from Browsers. The photo was taken in the foyer of the Glasgow Film Theatre.

Here is a report by Glen and Andrew:

How Well Do You Know Your School

We: Andrew, Glen, Harris, Billy, Monica, Nicola  Jennifer, Meaghan and Louise were given an opportunity by the Moving Image Education to come up with a short film about our selected topic. The topic given to us by the head of our Modern Languages Department, Mrs Sutherland was that of international diversity. We were given professional camera crew, Steven Barre and Brian Keegan, and director/ drama teacher, Howie Reeve. As a group we brain stormed to come up with ideas for our film; these ranged from love stories to talking fish until we finally came up with an idea that we all agreed on. We chose the idea of a game show, “How well do you know your school”. Then in late January we began to prepare for filming. The show had two teams (the smarty pants and the clever clogs) competing to win the prize of an International Food Buffet and had to answer questions based upon what they had either seen or the clues that they were given. Each week we were only given 25-30 minutes on a Friday lunch time, a far from ideal situation but after our dedication and hard work our film was ready and was handed over to Brian and Steven as they had the laborious job of editing it.
After the film had been edited it was time for it to be shown. It was shown alongside other films made by groups from other districts of Glasgow at the Glasgow Film Theatre on April 30th.
On the day of the showcase we registered at school as normal then, along with Brian, Steven and Mrs. Sutherland travelled by taxi to the GFT. Upon arriving we had numerous photographs taken of us, almost as if we really were famous. After the photographer had finished with us, we settled down in the cafe near the entrance and shared our excitement with other members of the group. Once the refreshments had been consumed we sat waiting for the moment when we would be allowed into the cinema to view the films.
Due to the content of the first film however, we had to wait until it was over before we could enter, but fortunately it did not take long and after a matter of a few minutes we entered the cinema and began viewing the work of the groups. The format was quite simple; one member of the group would introduce the film and explain how it was made, the film would be shown and then the next group would repeat the process. Three groups showed their films and before any of us really realised it was our group’s turn so Andrew McLeish and Steven very bravely stepped up onto the stage and presented our movie. As it was showing, we sat feeling quite proud of ourselves and also happy that our film had turned out to be quite enjoyable to watch and not just to make.
After the films had all been shown and those who presented them had answered all of questions that the audience had to ask, each group was awarded an award jokingly called a Howie, named after Howie Reeve this was collected by Glen Melville and Andrew McLeish as he had introduced the film.
Once we had final photographs taken of us we left to head back for school and made it just before lunch time giving us plenty of time to celebrate and think of what a great experience we had just had.
