YOUTH AND PHILANTHROPY INITIATIVE - WINNING TEAM PRESENT THEIR CHEQUE FOR £3,000

King’s Park winning YPI team attended the national event in Aberdeen. Here is Miss Cahill’s report.

This is the picture of the boys at the final of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative event in Aberdeen and Vicky McKenzie, the representative from Action for Children. The boys, the winners of the King's Park YPI event, presented Vicky with a cheque for £3,000.

The final YPI event of the academic year 2010-11 was held to celebrate the successes and achievements of all the participants across Scotland. King's Park Secondary was represented by its winning team of Andrew McLeish, Glen Melville, Harris Kelly and Billy McCafferty.

The evening was a spectacular event with performances by bands, dance troops and drummers. The event was attended by esteemed guests such as Sir Ian Woods, Chairman of the Woods Family Trust, Ed Smith, Managing Director of Operations at Lloyds Banking and Kerry Ann O'Neil, Human Resources at Bank of Scotland (these guests were also seated at the same table as the King's Park contingent and added a bit of glamour and excitement to the proceedings). The contributions from Sir Ian and Kerry Ann were congratulatory and glowing about the efforts of all the young people involved in the project. However, it must be noted that Kerry Ann O'Neil was particularly complimentary about the efforts of Andrew, Glen, Harris and Billy.

Winning this event is a magnificent feat achieved by all four boys. They are motivated pupils with a social conscience. They worked extremely hard on their presentation and were determined to do well for their chosen charity.  The staff at King's Park Secondary are extremely proud of their achievements.
